  How do you feel about the pledge of allegiance now?

  for you us citizens (and those whose nations have a similar patriotic oath), how do you feel about your children saying the pledge in school if it's customary?.

  my daughter is in 3rd grade and part of her school's morning routine includes the pledge.

  when we stopped attending meetings a year ago, my wife and i explained to her that we don't agree with the jw "idolatry" classification so, naturally, she started joining her class in the pledge.. fast forward to the present: my wife and i are both non-theists who want to raise ethical, caring, tolerant children, but also children who aren't afraid to stand apart, especially when that stand isn't popular.

  The requirement for her to say it isn't her own idea either. If kids want to say it - because the school system taught the educational value behind it - vs. saying " hey you're american, (Russian, greek, nazi, or whatever country someone is in where there's a required chanting ritual) so you have to say this!"

  But it's school policy - and not really presented as optional. So, parents have to interject if they want kids to think it through - the gov't and the school system sure don't explain it as optional.

  Singing kingdom songs week after week. Daily text reading of WT worship. Repetitive mindless repetitions serve only one point: indoctrination.

  In JW land it is indoctrination of the idea that your religion is better than everyone else's. With the pledge there is still mindless indoctrination, that my country is better than everyone else's.

  there are two parts to this topic you can read one or the other or both if you want, i just figured i post this for differents ones who might being going thru what i am going thru i tried to write this as quick as possible so everything i am posting here is not to offend anyone i know everyone has the own opinions on different things so you can disagree or agree, but this is where i stand.

  Just make sure they join in the lord's prayer at football games though - if they don't, you're really unAmerican. :)

  OK - here goes:

  (49 reg weekly meeting x6 hours of prepping and attending) + ( 52 service days x 3 hours of prepping and knocking on doors) + (5 whole days of entire assemblies + 1 full day to travel to DC x 24) = bare minimum req. to be a JW = 570 hours a year. That is the bare minimum required to be a JW.

  just thinking how I wake up everyday and how everything in my body works in such a precise manner, how the earth is set up with the oceans and mountain and how the sun comes up everyday and i could go into detail for days on how everything is set up so perfectly around us

  So obviously you're not a woman who has ever given birth. If that's "set up perfectly" by your standards then, I'd hate for you to design my house. I'd have to squeeze through a mouse door to get out while breaking it apart. 10 to 30% of the time the house or myself would not survive unless I had a construction crew/doctors on hand to mend us back together after I left. But hey, that's pefection for you.

  I'll bite. How about the fact that all the animals and peeps were vegetarians. What kind of food stock would be needed to keep everyone fed? How long before the fruits and vegetables rot? Was there a greenhouse in the ark? Where did the bats sleep? Were extra mice brought on board to feed them? Were they allowed to fly around at night and catch mice while the family was asleep? Was every bird a "bird of prey"? What made birds become predator birds all the sudden - was that satan's influence? Was there like a huge, huge, worm farm to feed the birds?

  So many questions. Only one answer - God did it.

  his objection was my statement,.

  "i've seen the blood video, a deceiving mix of scripture, fearmongering and pseudoscience, with plenty of lab coats in view.

  I think that is the best line of reasoning I've ever heard. Anyone who tried to argue against this point would have to be either retarded or blinded by a cult.
